Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, Bangkok, Thailand

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher in Pharmacometrics to conduct quantitative pharmacology research with the aim to improve and optimise current and newly developed treatments for malaria and other neglected tropical diseases. This will be done by developing mathematical and statistical models to describe the time course of drug concentrations and effect. You will work closely with scientists, software engineers, data managers, and collaborators across MORU and the wider Tropical Network Programme. Wet lab work will not be involved in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop physiologically‑based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models using clinical and preclinical data from MORU and collaborators to optimise treatments in infectious disease contexts.
  • Take part in experimental design, PBPK model development and verification, and translation of model outputs to inform clinical decision‑making.
  • Provide technical mentorship and practical guidance to junior members of the research group.
  • Manage your own academic research and administrative tasks and adapt existing and develop new research methodologies and materials.

Qualifications

  • Hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical sciences, physiology, mathematics, or a related area, with a focus on or substantial exposure to PBPK modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and applying PBPK models, using platforms such as Simcyp, PK‑Sim, GastroPlus, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write publications, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.

Benefits

Salary (£): Research Grade 7 – £39,424 – £47,779 per annum (pro rata). This includes a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata). In addition to the salary, the successful candidate may receive appropriate overseas allowances applicable to the location and appointment, in line with University policy.

This position is offered full time on a fixed‑term contract for 12 months and is funded by DNDI.
