About the Role
Consultant in Care of the Elderly – based at Weston General Hospital, a 279‑bed facility within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the Care of the Elderly services, working to reduce unnecessary admissions and shorten patient length of stay.
- Collaborate with system partners to ensure safe discharge to appropriate places of residence.
- Support frailty admissions pathways and play an instrumental role in shaping the future of orthogeriatric hospital services across Weston‑super‑Mare and Worle.
- Teach junior staff the principles of managing elderly patients, providing both daily clinical teaching and dedicated sessions when available.
- Work within the Healthy Weston2 programme to enhance safe, high‑quality emergency and planned care.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified physician with experience or strong interest in geriatrics.
- Enthusiastic, adaptable, and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Desirable subspecialty interests in frailty and orthogeriatric care.
