Electrical Design Engineer – Solar PV & Battery Storage

About the Role

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing renewable energy team. You’ll be responsible for designing solar PV and battery storage systems for domestic, commercial, and industrial projects, ensuring they are safe, compliant, practical, and cost-effective.

Working closely with our sales, project management, and installation teams, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality designs that support accurate quotations and smooth project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design solar PV and battery storage systems for a range of projects.
  • Produce electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, cable calculations, layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Design systems that meet customer requirements while complying with current regulations and industry standards.
  • Review site surveys, photographs, electrical information, and customer requirements to develop practical solutions.
  • Support the sales team with technical input and design information for quotations and proposals.
  • Work with project managers and installation teams to ensure designs are delivered accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide technical support throughout project delivery, including design amendments where required.
  • Ensure all designs comply with BS 7671, MCS requirements, DNO requirements, and relevant renewable energy standards.
  • Help develop standard design templates and improve internal design processes.
  • Keep up to date with developments in solar, battery storage, inverter technology, and industry best practice.

About You

Essential

  • Relevant electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • Experience producing electrical designs and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and safety standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of practical installation requirements.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and general business software.

Desirable

  • Experience designing solar PV and battery storage systems.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, PVsyst, PV*SOL, SolarEdge Designer or similar design software.
  • Knowledge of MCS standards, G98/G99 applications, and DNO processes.
  • Experience working on domestic, commercial, or industrial renewable energy projects.
  • Practical understanding of installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
