Interim Senior Legal Counsel – E-Commerce & Regulatory (EMEA)

MLA is working with a global technology / social media platform who is looking to hire an experienced commercial/regulatory lawyer to join its EMEA legal team on a 6 month basis.

This is a highly visible role supporting the expansion of a fast-growing e-commerce businessline of the technology / social media platform across Europe, the role will focus on advising on complex regulatory, consumer, product compliance, platform governance, and marketplace issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on legal and regulatory issues across the full e-commerce lifecycle, including seller onboarding, consumer protection, advertising, content governance, product compliance, returns and refunds, customer experience, and platform enforcement.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving EU and local regulatory frameworks impacting online marketplaces and digital platforms.
  • Work closely with external counsel across multiple jurisdictions, consolidating advice and identifying key legal and operational risks.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to develop scalable and compliant solutions for new and existing markets.
  • Assess local regulatory requirements and support implementation of market-specific compliance strategies.
  • Analyse and map key EU regulatory frameworks—including the Digital Services Act (DSA), General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), AI Act, GDPR, ePrivacy, Platform-to-Business (P2B) Regulation, consumer protection laws and product compliance requirements—across multiple European jurisdictions. Advise on differences in local implementation, regulatory guidance and enforcement trends, helping the business navigate complex cross-border compliance challenges.
  • Provide guidance on emerging legal issues relating to digital platforms, AI-enabled products and online marketplace operations.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer in England & Wales or another European jurisdiction.
  • Strong experience advising on e-commerce, digital platform regulation, consumer law, product compliance, commercial contracts or related regulatory matters.
  • Excellent understanding of the EU regulatory landscape affecting online businesses and marketplaces.
  • Experience supporting international expansion projects and multi-jurisdictional legal issues.
  • Commercially minded, pragmatic and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Additional European language skills would be advantageous.
