Senior Consultant Solicitor – Corporate, Commercial, Employment & Data ProtectionFlexible Consultancy / Part-Time Advisory RoleCity of London / HybridAbout Raymond Legal
Raymond Legal is a specialist law firm with offices in London, Shanghai, Paris, Shenzhen and Dublin, providing legal services across the UK, Europe and Asia. The firm advises clients on corporate and commercial matters, dispute resolution, commercial property, immigration, employment, intellectual property, data protection, French and EU law, with a particular focus on cross-border matters involving the UK, Europe and the Far East.
Raymond Legal is uniquely positioned as a City of London law firm offering legal services to Chinese, Taiwanese and international clients, supported by a multilingual and internationally minded team. We place strong emphasis on clear communication, close collaboration, commercial judgment and practical outcomes for our clients.
As our corporate and commercial practice continues to grow, we are looking to appoint a highly experienced senior solicitor on a flexible consultancy basis to provide technical guidance, supervision and strategic support to our internal team.
The Role
This is a flexible, part-time consultancy role for a senior solicitor with substantial experience in corporate, commercial, employment and/or data protection matters.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted senior adviser and sounding board to our corporate and commercial department, supporting the department lead and wider team on complex or higher-risk matters. The role is designed for a senior practitioner who enjoys mentoring younger lawyers, providing calm and practical legal judgment, and helping a growing international law firm strengthen the quality and depth of its advisory offering.
This is not a full-time fee-earner role and does not require a portable client following. Instead, we are looking for someone who can be available on an agreed flexible basis when senior input is needed, whether for internal discussions, document review, client meetings, strategic advice or supervision of complex work.
The role may suit a senior solicitor seeking a portfolio, advisory or consultancy arrangement, with the ability to contribute meaningfully without taking on a full-time executive or departmental management position.
Key Responsibilities
The Consultant Solicitor will be expected to:
Provide senior-level technical guidance to the corporate and commercial department on complex legal and commercial issues.
Act as a sounding board to the department lead on transaction strategy, risk assessment, client handling and matter management.
Review and comment on key legal documents, including commercial contracts, corporate documents, shareholders’ agreements, board and shareholder approvals, transactional documents, employment-related documents, data protection documents and general commercial agreements.
Support the team on matters involving corporate law, general commercial law, employment law and GDPR/data protection compliance, depending on the candidate’s expertise.
Attend internal case strategy meetings where senior input is required.
Attend client meetings where appropriate, particularly for complex, sensitive or high-value matters.
Provide technical supervision, quality control and risk oversight on selected matters.
Mentor junior and mid-level lawyers, helping them develop better legal analysis, drafting skills, client judgment and matter management habits.
Assist with the development of internal precedents, checklists, workflows and training materials.
Support cross-border matters involving the UK, EU, China and other international markets.
Contribute to business development activities where appropriate, such as client seminars, strategic introductions, thought leadership or supporting key client relationships.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a solicitor with:
Qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales, or equivalent senior legal qualification relevant to the role.
Ideally 15+ years’ post-qualification experience in one or more of the following areas: Corporate law
Commercial contracts; Employment law; GDPR / data protection compliance; General commercial advisory work
Strong private practice, in-house or mixed experience.
A practical, commercial and risk-based approach to legal advice.
Experience supervising, mentoring or managing junior lawyers.
The ability to provide clear, timely and proportionate advice to both colleagues and clients.
Strong drafting, reviewing and issue-spotting skills.
Confidence dealing with business owners, international clients and cross-border matters.
An interest in working with a dynamic, growing and international law firm.
A collaborative style and willingness to support younger lawyers without needing to take over the day-to-day running of the department.
Experience with UK/EU and Far East cross-border matters would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Working Arrangement
This is a flexible consultancy role based in London, with hybrid working arrangements.
We anticipate that the Consultant Solicitor may attend our City of London office approximately once per week, or as otherwise agreed, particularly for team meetings, client meetings or matter strategy sessions.
The role will be structured on an hourly rate, day rate or project basis, to be agreed with the successful candidate. The arrangement is intended to be flexible and proportionate to the firm’s needs and the candidate’s availability.
This is not a full-time salaried position. There is no requirement for the candidate to bring their own client following, although involvement in business development would be welcomed where appropriate.
The precise scope of work, availability, rates, regulatory responsibilities, insurance arrangements and supervision/sign-off responsibilities will be agreed separately.
Why Join Raymond Legal?
This is an opportunity to play a meaningful senior advisory role in a growing international law firm without the demands of a full-time partnership or permanent management position.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
Support and mentor an ambitious younger legal team.
Contribute to complex and interesting cross-border matters.
Provide senior legal judgment where it has real impact.
Work flexibly with a firm that values practical experience and commercial wisdom.
Help shape the development of a growing corporate and commercial department.
Remain engaged in high-quality legal work while maintaining a flexible professional lifestyle.
Be part of a growing firm with great potential.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a CV and a short covering note outlining their relevant experience, areas of expertise, availability and preferred consultancy arrangement.
