- Lead the site’s Safety, Health and Environmental strategy, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, company standards and corporate policies.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve SHE management systems, procedures and performance standards.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to managers and employees on all SHE matters, including operational risk assessments, incident investigations and legislative compliance.
- Lead the development and delivery of site SHE improvement programmes to achieve world-class SHE performance.
- Promote a strong behavioural safety culture by engaging employees at all levels and encouraging ownership of SHE responsibilities.
- Monitor SHE performance through audits, inspections, KPI reporting and trend analysis, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented.
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures.
- Ensure effective management of environmental compliance, including permits, emissions, waste management and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SHE legislation and ensure the site remains fully compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Act as the site’s subject matter expert for Operational Risk Assessment processes and process safety management.
- Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, external SHE networks and industry groups.
- Support capital projects and operational changes by ensuring appropriate SHE risk assessments and controls are implemented.
- Manage emergency preparedness arrangements and participate as a member of the site’s Emergency Response Duty Team.
- Lead coach and develop all functions to deliver high SHE performance and continuous improvement
- Prepare reports and present SHE performance, trends and improvement plans to the Site Leadership Team and corporate stakeholders.
- Support business continuity and operational excellence through effective SHE leadership and risk management.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years management experience within a manufacturing or process industry environment.
- Degree or professional qualification in a relevant scientific discipline.
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification).
- Extensive knowledge of UK Safety, Health and Environmental legislation.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, operational risk assessment and technical SHE issues.
- Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing SHE management systems.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams.
