ROLE TITLE: NFR Tester (Performance Test Engineer)
LOCATION: London (preferred), Leicester or Manchester – Hybrid (3 days onsite, 5 days onsite initially)
CLEARANCE: SC eligible

Job Purpose / The Role:
You will join HMRC’s flagship customs transformation programme, working as part of an experienced delivery team supporting IBM in the testing of the UK’s central customs platform. This is a high-profile programme focused on modernising critical national infrastructure.
As an NFR Tester, you will collaborate closely with business analysts and technical teams to understand requirements, design test scenarios, and deliver high-quality performance and non-functional testing.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute performance and non-functional test scenarios.
- Work closely with business analysts to translate requirements into test cases.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Cucumber and Java.
- Conduct performance testing to ensure system scalability, reliability, and stability.
- Record, track, and manage defects using JIRA.
- Document test processes, results, and best practices in Confluence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve overall test quality.
Your Skills:
- Strong experience in performance testing within complex systems.
- Hands-on experience with Cucumber and Java.
- Proven experience using JIRA and Confluence.
- Understanding of non-functional testing methodologies.
- Eligible for BPSS clearance (minimum 5 years UK residency and UK-based).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within Agile teams.
Nice to have:
- Experience with JMeter.
- Exposure to AWS tooling.
