Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Basildon Council to recruit Executive Liaison Support Supervisor on a full-time, temporary basis.
Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week.

The Opportunity
This post holder will be based within the Legal and Democracy Support Team, supervising the teams providing specialist high quality administrative and clerical support to legal, democracy, executive and elections, this will include support for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Leader of the Council.
The post holder will be required to deliver a high-quality level of support and supervise the Support Officer and Specialist Support Officers.
Accountabilities
- Act as a go-to resource for expertise in specialist support services to the Council’s Legal and Democracy Service, including legal, democracy, executive, and elections in addition to support for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor of the Council; staying updated on industry trends and best practices, incorporating them into strategies and policies for the service area.
- Ensure that all duties of the support and specialist support officers are undertaken to a high standard, managing the allocation of resources within the Support Team ensuring that this is allocated according to priorities which may change from time to time, organising busy periods and diary management to ensure that the team is covered to take ad-hoc requests in addition to the standard workload.
- Work closely with the other Supervisors within the service and the elections specialist to ensure appropriate support is planned for and provided throughout the year ensuring council priorities and objectives are met and statutory responsibilities complied with whilst remaining agile to ensure the support function is able to respond to any changes and peak periods.
- To maintain a general awareness of local government functions and governance arrangements to ensure informed support and guidance can be provided.
- To attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders including as a representative of the Council as required. Liaising with internal and external services, stakeholders, partners and customers in support of the aims and objectives of the Council
- Handle escalated concerns, high-level complaints, FOIs, EIRs, SARs with professionalism and urgency, ensuring timely resolution Provide assistance to the Monitoring Officer by managing and overseeing complaints to the LGO and HO ensuring findings and recommendations are communicated, reported and complied with.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Demonstrable experience of providing high quality administrative support at a snr level.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present a range of complex and detailed financial and other issues to a diverse audience.
- Advanced IT skills, in particular excel, including the ability to design, construct and interpret complex spreadsheets, business plans and financial models.
- Excellent organisational skills, with experience in keeping timely, complete and accurate records, resource planning and prioritisation of a heavy and diverse workload
- Experience of working within local government or similar organisation
