The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a compassionate and caring approach to patients, be well organised, well presented, practice excellent Infection Prevention and Control, be flexible in their approach to work, work effectively as part of a team, and use their own initiative to manage a team of Dental Nurses while providing support to the clinical members of the team.
Main duties of the job
- Provide leadership to the Dental Nurse team on a daily basis, inspiring them with strong leadership, excellent clinical skills and a visible and exemplary commitment to patient‑centredness.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Dental Nurse and the Matron to raise department and staffing issues where appropriate.
- Carry out clinical dental nursing on a minimum of two days per week, ensuring credibility with the nursing team and role‑modeling excellent clinical nursing skills.
- Line‑manage the Senior Dental Nurses and an agreed number of Dental Nurses in the department.
- Work closely with the Senior Dental Nurses to delegate key operational tasks to them in the day‑to‑day operational management of clinical services.
- Represent the department at nurse management meetings and the clinical governance group, and take responsibility for delivering agreed actions with nursing teams.
- Deputise for the Lead Dental Nurse in her absence.
- Manage required operational tasks for the department, including responsibility for ordering stock and ensuring maintenance and repair of equipment.
Qualifications
- NEBDN and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent.
- Post‑Qualification Certificate.
Experience
- Experience of working with Undergraduate Students.
- Evidence of knowledge and experience of HR processes and policies.
- Evidence of service improvement.
- Previous experience of working in a hospital setting.
- Responsibility for clinical activities appropriate to the department.
- Experience of line management of Dental Nurses and supervision and mentoring of trainee dental nurses within a clinical environment.
- Participation in the recruitment and selection of dental nurses.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of a range of dental nursing procedures acquired through training and experience.
- Knowledge of leadership models.
- Knowledge of current emerging NHS strategy and policy.
