An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our existing secretarial team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. We currently have one position in Vascular Surgery based at Sandwell Health Campus.

Within our Trust, secretaries provide full secretarial support to consultants and their junior doctors, while also working together as a team.

You will provide an efficient and effective patient administration service to support the Trust’s ambition to deliver high quality, well coordinated care for patients and service users and to support consultants and clinical teams to function effectively, through:

Main duties of the job

  • Actively manage the administrative processes associated with patient pathways and contribute to the effectiveness of clinical teams (including patient experience, patient flow and waiting list management).
  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and clinical teams to support the delivery of high quality, coordinated and integrated care, including liaison with patients, carers, GP’s and other service users.
  • Book appointments for patients on cancer pathway within National Targets and raise capacity issues with the Line Manager. Manage Trust dashboard and book appointments appropriately.
  • Have robust knowledge of IT systems and be able to work with multiple systems simultaneously.
  • Excellent typing speed and grammar is desirable.

Experience

  • Substantial experience within the NHS.
  • Knowledge of waiting list / patient management systems.
  • Knowledge of PAS systems and other relevant databases.
  • Experience of managing an 18 week pathway.
  • Cancer Services knowledge and/or experience.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths grade C and above.
  • Excellent IT skills to include complex databases.
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
  • AMPSAR qualification or evidence of extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
  • RSA Typing Level 2.
  • AMSPAR.
  • NVQ4 in a relevant subject to the role e.g. Business Administration or Leadership and Management or willingness to work towards.

£28,392 to £31,157 a year pro rata per annum
