Responsibilities
- Co‑ordinate the configuration of the prescribing drug file and work collaboratively with critical‑care teams to ensure the system meets their needs.
- Implement governance for the system, including development of guidelines and standard operating procedures, and provide training and documentation for pharmacy staff.
- Provide routine maintenance and support of pharmacy IT systems in liaison with suppliers, LUHFT IT teams, and designated pharmacy staff.
- Maintain data quality and reporting for pharmacy IT systems, notably the Stock Control and Electronic Prescribing & Medicines Administration systems.
- Develop and deliver training plans and materials for pharmacy IT systems.
- Lead, coordinate, and participate in the development of pharmacy IT systems as required by pharmacy and hospital needs.
- Assist with the management of all aspects of pharmacy IT systems, liaising with system suppliers and LUHFT Pharmacy and IM&T staff to ensure continued delivery of functions.
- Help manage project upgrades of the electronic prescribing system, ensuring all software functions are tested before going live and advising on potential impacts within the department.
- Manage electronic prescribing files and parameters, continually audit data integrity.
- Assist with the design and maintenance of standing operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials so pharmacy staff can operate pharmacy IT systems correctly.
- Deliver training to pharmacy staff on the use of pharmacy IT systems.
- Provide out‑of‑hours support for pharmacy IT systems where appropriate.
- Support the Lead Pharmacist for Electronic Prescribing and pharmacy IT systems management.
- Develop reporting solutions to support departmental and trust objectives.
- Assist with the development of pharmacy automation where appropriate.
- Undertake dispensing and final dispensing checking duties as required to maintain competence and support weekday, weekend, public holiday, and late‑night rotas (specific to technical staff in the post).
Qualifications
- QCF Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) with appropriate underpinning knowledge.
- BTEC Level 4, Professional Diploma in Dispensing Checking (or equivalent) and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Society.
- QCF Level 4 management qualification (or equivalent).
- Demonstrable experience with pharmacy electronic prescribing systems.
- Proven dispensary and clinical development project experience.
- Pro‑active approach and evidence of continuous professional development.
- Human resources experience and effective staff management.
- Management through delegation, achieving results through others, and a proven record of change management.
- Experience appraising staff, managing recruitment processes, and chairing interviews.
- Knowledge of relevant education providers and requirements, and further education courses.
- Understanding of future developments in hospital pharmacy.
- Excellent communication and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self‑motivating and inspiring others.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- Previous management or supervisory experience and computer literacy.
- Knowledge of technician registration procedures and deadlines.
