Job overview
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Band 7 Children’s Occupational Therapist who is keen to develop their specialist clinical skills and leadership abilities. The role is permanent part‑time (0.8 WTE) and is based at The Oak Tree Centre in Huntingdon.
You will be responsible for a caseload, line‑manage other team members, and contribute to the ongoing development of the service. The role involves working across Cambridgeshire with housing, social care and health colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The role requires balancing clinical priorities while supporting the Team Lead and Associate Team Lead. Responsibilities include supervision, participation in band‑7 meetings, and delegation of tasks.
Provide an integrated Occupational Therapy service to children and young people, focusing on major housing adaptation. This involves specialist assessment of housing needs, providing equipment advice, and working closely with community OT, housing agencies, architects and surveyors.
You will manage your own caseload, support colleagues, and play an active part in service development. Mixed caseload at advanced practitioner level is expected.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Nature of work
- Provide specialist clinical knowledge and support to colleagues within the housing team.
- Supervise occupational therapy staff within the team.
- Assess and prescribe specialist equipment for home and link with community OT to ensure a fully integrated service, including travel across Cambridgeshire.
- Conduct children’s occupational therapy assessments related to minor and major building adaptations, liaising with housing agencies, architects and surveyors.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, focusing on the disabled facilities grant process.
- Carry out all clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- Act as a service specialist advisor and resource.
- Delegate work to therapy assistants with oversight of their input with children and young people.
- Deliver training and lecturing programmes to external agencies and internal teams.
Planning
- Plan own diary and prioritise caseload.
- Assist with triage, manage wait lists and maintain an overview of the county‑wide team caseloads.
- Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the children and young people’s Occupational Therapy service.
Specific projects
- Hold responsibility for defined, delegated projects.
- Liaise with the Housing Team Leader to ensure equitable service for all children referred to the housing team.
Communication
- Provide excellent communication with children, young people, parents, carers, schools, local education authorities, social services, hospitals, paediatricians, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, pre‑school teachers, psychologists and child and family nurses.
- Communicate effectively with all agencies, handling sensitive information appropriately.
- Manage concerns, incidents and complaints, referring to the Housing Team Leader or Clinical Lead as appropriate.
- Contribute to internal communication strategies and two‑way engagement within the organisation.
- Support external communication strategies with the Head of Communications to promote the reputation of EEC services.
People Management
- Line‑manage and supervise junior Occupational Therapists, including clinical supervision, professional leadership, annual appraisals and completion of personal development plans.
- Support junior staff with caseload management.
- Assist the Clinical Lead in recruiting Occupational Therapists.
Research & Development Activity
- Maintain professional development, participate in appraisal and KSF process.
- Conduct evidence‑based audit and research projects to improve practice, recommend changes to the Clinical Lead, and implement service protocol improvements.
- Measure and evaluate work and current practices through evidence‑based projects, audits and outcome measures, and work with the Clinical Lead to update service protocols.
Clinical and Practice Governance
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and staff information in line with Data Protection Act.
- Handle data in accordance with Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
- Adhere to Trust risk assessment, risk management and infection control policies.
- Maintain HCPC registration and complete required training.
- Participate in clinical and safeguarding audits, clinical supervision, and emergency preparedness processes.
- Provide patients and families with information on expected standards.
Person specification
Qualifications and Training
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with HCPC.
- Experience working on highly complex cases in a multi‑agency setting.
- Experience of service development or audit.
Knowledge and Skills
- Awareness of health and safety legislation.
- Ability to work with a child‑centred approach.
- Understanding of safeguarding issues.
Experience
- Experience in major adaptations and equipment.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary or multi‑agency teams.
- Experience leading and participating in workshops or CPD teaching opportunities.
- Experience working with complex disability.
- Experience of applying relevant housing legislation.
- Experience of moving and handling legislation.
