Clerical Officer – Emergency Department

Type: Permanent, Part‑time 25 hours (Mon‑Fri 6pm‑11pm) – Term‑time only.

We’re looking for someone to join our reception and clerical team where you’ll support the GP in ED Service. You will provide caring, professional service to patients, families and staff in critical moments.

About You

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a public‑facing role with general office responsibilities.
  • Enthusiastic, compassionate, able to stay calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Team player who wants to contribute to the care and support of others.

Main Duties

  • Support admin and clerical tasks to ensure smooth running of the GP in ED service (Mon‑Fri 6pm‑11pm, term‑time only).
  • Provide a welcoming reception service for patients and visitors.
  • Register patients and ensure accurate data entry onto NHS software/systems.
  • Direct patients to appropriate areas and answer questions with excellent customer service.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold professionalism in challenging situations.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • GCSE Maths and English
  • ECDL qualification

Experience

  • Experience of general office duties.
  • Previous experience of dealing with the general public in a workplace setting.
  • Previous experience of clerical work in an Emergency Department or a healthcare environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience of using a computerised client database.
  • Excellent keyboard skills.
  • Use of Careflow PAS.

Salary

£25,760 to £27,476 per annum (pro rata).
