Trainee Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) – BSc Hons (Graduate Apprenticeship)
Band 5 Graduate Apprentice Operating Department Practitioner – Permanent, 36 hours per week, salary £34,544 – £43,039 (Annex 21*).
Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) are part of the multi‑disciplinary team delivering high‑standard perioperative care in the anaesthetic, surgical and post‑anaesthetic phases. As a trainee, you will receive a blended learning programme of 20% online theory and 80% clinical work across NHS Fife, supported by clinical mentors. Completion of the three‑year programme qualifies you for Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.

Entry Criteria
- Strong academic record: Scottish National Qualifications in five subjects, including three at higher level, or GCSE/GCE in four subjects including one at A Level.
- Alternative pathway: applicants with one year relevant work experience and meeting DipHE criteria may be considered on an individual basis.
English Language Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency equivalent to Level 7 of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with no component below 6.5 to meet HCPC registration requirements.
Academic Programme Fees
Scotland‑based trainees who meet the SAAS Scottish requirements receive funding for academic fees, paid directly to the university. Non‑eligible candidates must self‑fund. Further details are available through the SAAS website.
Commencement
The programme starts September 2026; appointment must begin no later than the week commencing Monday 07 September 2026.
