Description
The Kirklees Youth Justice Service (YJS) is a multi‑agency partnership comprising social work, health, police, careers, restorative justice, probation and youth justice professionals. As a Social Worker within the YJS you will work closely with the Youth Engagement Team and, on occasion, be responsible for working with children at risk of exploitation as well as offending. The primary focus of the role is to engage children in the justice system to prevent further offending and support them to reach their potential and contribute positively to their communities. The Service promotes child‑first principles, identifying drivers for offending, recognising structural barriers, and supporting children to develop pro‑social, positive behaviours. Restorative justice is central to what we do, giving victims a voice, encouraging children to take responsibility, and providing opportunities to make amends.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with the Youth Engagement Team and multi‑agency partners• Engage children in the justice system and support their rehabilitation• Address safety concerns for children and others• Provide case management, produce analytical written assessments, plans and interventions• Promote restorative working, taking into account victims’ views and public safety concerns
Qualifications
- Social work experience and a good understanding of social work in a youth justice setting
- Experience working positively across a multi‑agency team
- Commitment to equalities and understanding of structural barriers faced by children in the justice system
- Ability to engage children and families in an inclusive, collaborative and trauma‑informed way
- Ability to address safety concerns for children and others
- Knowledge of youth justice practice, relevant legislation, government guidelines and best practice principles
- Ability to use case management systems and produce high‑quality analytical written assessments, plans and interventions
- Commitment to restorative working, considering the views and interests of victims and public safety issues
- Experience delivering services to those at risk of child exploitation, gang affiliation and criminal influences
- Flexibility, positivity and ability to meet deadlines
