About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Residential Support Worker to help make our home a safe, happy and welcoming place for children and young people aged 8-18.

Our young people say they want staff who listen to them, have fun and join in, help them feel safe, don’t give up, and can explain things instead of just saying “no”.

What it’s Like Working With Us

We want you to feel confident, supported and part of our team from day one. Here’s what we offer:

  • Friendly welcome
  • Full induction with 40 hours of shadowing, learning our home, watching experienced staff, and getting to know the young people
  • Chance to settle in at your own pace
  • Training and development to keep you growing
  • Regular supervisions and coaching from the management team
  • Opportunities to develop your skills and confidence
  • Supportive team with regular meetings, an open-door policy, and teamwork so you are never alone on shift

Day to Day Life

Every day is different. You will work closely with the Manager and support staff and young people. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Taking part in sleep-ins
  • Helping with routines and daily living
  • Supporting feelings, emotions and behaviour
  • Planning fun activities and getting involved
  • Celebrating achievements, big and small

Essential Responsibilities

  • Stay overnight (sleep-ins) to keep everyone safe
  • Support young people with their daily needs
  • Work closely with the Manager
  • Support and guide other staff
  • Provide supervision to support workers

Skills & Experience

Desired qualities and background:

  • Experience with children, young people, or vulnerable adults
  • Understanding of how to support young people who may feel upset or display challenging behaviours
  • Commitment to making every young person feel safe, cared for, and respected
  • Awareness that all young people have different emotional, physical, social, and cultural needs
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to lead a team
  • Ability to support and guide staff calmly and positively

What You Should Have

  • Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it – we will support you)
  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Understanding of child development and learning
  • A positive, caring, restorative approach – fixing problems together rather than through punishment
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to support young people and families
  • Experience supervising staff
  • UK driving licence preferred but not essential

Working Hours

You will need to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and nights. Working with us is a 24/7 team effort, but you will always have support around you.
