Job Overview
The Dispensing Assistant is an integral member of the pharmacy team. You are one of the first people many customers will see when coming into the pharmacy, speak to when seeking healthcare advice and interact with when collecting a prescription or ask for help when they wish to purchase a medicine. The role involves supporting the pharmacy team in daily operations and engaging customers.
Responsibilities
- Manufacturing dosette trays for local community patients who need extra support in organising medication
- Downloading and preparing prescriptions sent from a local surgery or customers who arrive to collect
- Supporting the medicines counter assistant and pharmacist in their roles
- Having effective conversations with customers, ensuring they get the right level of care and medication for their needs
- Engaging with customers around additional services offered, including the Pharmacy First scheme
Qualifications
- NVQ2 in dispensing or equivalent provider (National Pharmacy Association)
- For trainee dispenser, enrolled on a dispensing course with expected completion in 9‑12 months, followed by a pay review
- Progression opportunities: enrolment onto NVQ3 technician course, Accuracy Checking for Dispensers (ACD) or Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) courses
Location & Hours
Badham Pharmacy Gloucester, Kingsway, Gloucester. 40 hours a week. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 08:30‑17:30 or 09:00‑18:00 with 1 in 4 Saturdays working 9‑12pm.
Pay & Benefits
- Starting rates: £12.71 for trainees and £13.46 for those who already hold a dispensing qualification, based on experience
