About The Role
We are looking for a passionate Aquarist to join our Zoological department. Responsibilities include caring for a wide range of aquatic animals (native and tropical marine fish, aquatic reptiles & amphibians, marine invertebrates), managing filtration systems, and providing daily public presentations and education sessions. Front‑of‑house confidence and behind‑the‑scenes expertise are essential.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist the Zoological team with running and maintaining all displays.
- Ensure the highest standard of animal care and husbandry.
- Maintain accurate animal records to comply with Zoo licensing standards.
- Keep plant rooms, tool rooms, laboratories and quarantine facilities clean and tidy.
- Maintain life‑support systems and report faults to the Displays Supervisor/Curator.
- Present a courteous, pleasant and approachable image to the public at all times.
- Participate in the on‑call emergency rota.
About You
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of delivering public talks and education sessions.
- Degree in Marine Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Marine Sciences or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and welfare.
- Familiarity with life‑support systems, including pumps.
- Proven ability to design, construct and maintain aquaria.
- Experience with PVC pipework and basic joinery.
- Full manual driving licence.
