Learning Support Assistant: SEMH
Southend-on-Sea
Pay: £95 – £110 per day
We are looking for an enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to support students with additional needs in a thriving SEMH provision.
Responsibilities
- Support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a 1:1 or small group basis.
- Assist classroom teachers in managing challenging and complex behaviours safely and effectively.
- Monitor student progress, adapt learning materials, and provide constructive feedback.
- Communicate with, de‑escalate, and encourage children with complex behavioural profiles.
- Collaborate with colleagues and specialists to implement behaviour management and individual education plans (IEPs).
- Maintain regular communication with staff regarding student progress and emotional wellbeing.
- Contribute to a safe, positive, and supportive wider school community.
Requirements
- Proven experience dealing with challenging and complex behaviour within an SEMH or alternative provision setting.
- Experience working with young people with two professional references.
- Enhanced child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Right to work in the UK – essential (no sponsorship).
- Strong knowledge of de‑escalation techniques, SEMH support, and trauma‑informed practice.
- Passion for inclusive education, teaching and learning.
