Are you a qualified Teaching Assistant with a passion for helping children with additional needs thrive? A welcoming primary school in the S5 area of Sheffield is looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, helping them access learning and develop confidence both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teachers and the SEND team, you will provide tailored support through one‑to‑one and small group interventions, adapting your approach to meet individual needs. Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities.
  • Adapt resources and strategies to meet individual learning needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence and classroom participation.
  • Monitor pupil progress and share observations with teaching staff.
  • Help maintain a safe, supportive and structured learning environment.

Requirements

  • Ideally hold a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND within a primary school is desirable.
  • A patient, caring and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine commitment to helping every child reach their potential.
  • Knowledge of additional needs such as autism, ADHD or speech and language difficulties is advantageous.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection; successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
