Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Therapist Ashbourne

Please note that this is a part-time, pro rata position requiring 20 hours per week, based on a full time salary range of £31,000 – £38,000 per annum.

We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Therapist to join our dedicated team within our children’s learning disability home. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.

As our PBS Therapist, you will work closely with children, residential care staff, families, and multidisciplinary professionals to develop and implement person‑centred behaviour support plans that improve quality of life, promote independence, and reduce behaviours of concern.

Typical Work Activities

  • Conduct functional behaviour assessments and develop evidence‑based Positive Behaviour Support plans.
  • Support children and young people to achieve positive outcomes through proactive, person‑centred interventions.
  • Coach, mentor, and train residential staff in PBS principles and trauma‑informed approaches.
  • Monitor, review, and evaluate behaviour support strategies, adapting plans where required.
  • Work collaboratively with families, education providers, healthcare professionals, and local authorities.
  • Promote least restrictive practice and ensure interventions uphold children’s rights, dignity, and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to care planning, risk assessments, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and compliance with relevant legislation and best practice guidance.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A relevant professional qualification in Psychology, Behaviour Analysis, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Nursing, or another related field.
  • Experience working with children or young people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of Positive Behaviour Support.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship‑building skills.
  • The ability to analyse behaviour and develop effective, person‑centred interventions.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Experience within residential children’s services.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
