Bradford Council aims to ensure that young people can access a range of activities that take place in safe spaces, where young people can develop a sense of belonging, socialise with their peers and develop relationships with adults they can trust. We recognise that with the right supportive relationships, strong ambitions and good opportunities all young people can realise their potential and be positive and active members of society. Young people are able to access youth provision in each of Bradford’s constituencies with the Youth Service providing around 90 sessions each week. There is strong focus on open access youth provision that enables all young people to participate in activities that support their health and wellbeing.
Role Overview
Bradford Council is seeking to appoint a JNC qualified Youth Support Worker Leader in Charge who will support on the development and delivery of the Youth Offer as part of an area team.
Please note that post-holders will be required to work flexibly with working hours often being in the evenings or / and weekends. Applicants must be able to work outside of regular office hours. The successful candidate will be based at the Bradford West Office but will be expected to undertake work across the Bradford District.
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate and develop relationships with 11-19 year olds and up to 25 year olds, including young people with disabilities.
- Work directly with young people to enable them to broaden their horizons and engage in positive activities.
- Design and develop youth work responses underpinned by the Youth Service cornerstones of Equality, Participation, Education and Empowerment.
- Develop and deliver a Youth Offer that is informed by the voice of young people and can meet their needs.
Qualifications and Experience
- JNC qualification level 6 or above in Youth Work.
- Experience of working with young people in a variety of settings.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and regulations including risks in Youth Work.
- Proficiency in basic IT packages.
- Ability to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways of working more efficiently and effectively to improve service delivery.
- Knowledge of information handling, interpretation and communication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues important to young people and ability to apply equality of opportunity and voluntary participation in a youth work situation.
- Ability to deliver skills to enable young people to work effectively in groups.
- Ability to work as part of a team to deliver youth work.
