Prison Officer – HMP Full Sutton
Full time, part time, part time/Job Share, flexible working – 39 hour week (including 20% unsocial hours). Salary: £36,816 per annum (37 hours: £34,928, 41 hours: £39,334). Location: HMP Full Sutton, Moor Ln, Full Sutton, York YO41 1PS.
Starting date: 23‑July‑2026. Vacancy type: Merit. Counter‑Terrorism Check (CTC) required.
Responsibilities
- Protect the public and maintain safety within the prison.
- Build constructive, positive relationships with prisoners.
- Act as a peacekeeper, counsellor, or teacher as required.
- Support colleagues as a cohesive team and adhere to the Warden’s directives.
- Work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum age: 18.
- Meet Civil Service nationality requirements; see approved groups.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment (eyesight, hearing, basic health).
- Hold a suitable standard of hearing (without hearing aids).
- Have been a UK resident for the last 3 years (CTC residency requirement).
- Tattoos must not be offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating (facial tattoos generally not allowed).
Working Conditions and Pay
- Initial training: 37 hours a week. Post‑training options: 37, 39, or 41 hours.
- Shift patterns include evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Annual holiday: 25 days (30 days after 10 years); public holidays and one extra privilege day.
- Salary includes any applicable allowances.
