Reading Champion – West Town Primary Academy

Grade 5/C or above in GCSE English & Mathematics (or equivalent). Will have a love of reading. Practical experience of working with children and young people. Is able to form good relationships with children and work in partnership with parents, colleagues and other professionals. Is able to provide focused one-to-one support. Is an excellent communicator and can work well in a team. Willingness to undertake training. An understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Promote reading and literacy within the school.
  • Oversee intervention programmes using the ‘Little Wandle’ reading and phonics resources.
  • Work alongside the Early Reading and Phonics Lead and teaching staff to help children become confident and independent readers.
  • Lead small group interventions and provide one-to-one reading support.
  • Promote reading widely across the school and develop additional resources for interventions.
  • Engage effectively with children, teaching staff, and parents/carers.
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities linked to the role (e.g., World Book Day).
