Job Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Technologist / Dosimetrist to join a friendly and enthusiastic team in a busy Radiosurgery Physics department providing scientific and technical support to the National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery. The National Centre in Sheffield has been treating patients with Gamma Knife Radiosurgery since 1985 and treats around 1,000 patients per year.
Main Duties of the Job
Job Purpose
- Provide clinical technical support to the National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery, including all aspects of patient treatment, dosimetry and quality assurance of radiosurgery equipment.
- Contribute to medical physics support for stereotactic radiosurgery services, providing technical support at all stages of patient preparation, target localisation, planning and treatment processes.
- Support research projects as directed by the Section Chief Clinical Technologist.
The successful candidate will join the Radiosurgery Physics team and Clinical Scientists and will participate in all aspects of the service, including:
- Radiosurgery treatment planning using Elekta GammaPlan software.
- Equipment quality assurance.
- Development and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
- Patient data analysis for service evaluation and research and development activities.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Vocational Degree in Clinical Technology or an equivalent degree in Physics, Radiotherapy or related subject to satisfy the eligibility for the Register of Clinical Technologists.
- Registration with the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT).
- Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Register (HCPC) or similar.
Experience
- Proficient use of a range of software packages including Microsoft, suited to scientific environments.
- Significant radiotherapy planning experience (Band 6).
- Experience in the use of physics in a radiotherapy or dosimetry setting (Band 6).
- Awareness of the use of physics in a radiotherapy or dosimetry setting (Band 5).
- Previous radiotherapy planning experience (Band 5).
- Previous radiosurgery planning experience (Band 5).
Skills and Knowledge
