Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead and support the Data Migration workstream within a large-scale transformation programme. The role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering end-to-end data migration activities, ensuring alignment with programme timelines, scope, and governance. The successful candidate will work closely with business, architecture, and technical teams to ensure data readiness for migration to the target global platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of the Data Migration workstream, including planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Define and maintain the detailed data migration plan, aligned to the integrated programme schedule.
  • Coordinate across data architects, SMEs, business analysts, and engineering teams to capture requirements and define migration scope.
  • Establish and manage data migration strategy, including extraction, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and cutover planning.
  • Track dependencies across workstreams and ensure alignment.
  • Manage risks, issues, and assumptions through structured RAID governance.
  • Ensure data quality standards, auditability, and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Provide clear status reporting to Programme Leadership, SteerCo, and stakeholders.
  • Support decision-making by preparing impact assessments, options analysis, and recommendations.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Technical Project Manager delivering complex data migration programmes.
  • Strong understanding of data migration methodologies, ETL processes, and data validation techniques.
  • Experience working with large-scale transformation programmes and multiple workstreams.
  • Knowledge of data architectures, data modelling, and system integration.
  • Experience with migration tools and platforms (e.g., ETL tools, data warehouses, integration platforms).
  • Strong understanding of databases (SQL, relational and non-relational).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or similar).
  • Experience with data governance, data quality, and compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders, including Programme Directors, Architects, and Business Leads.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills to drive workshops and decision‑making sessions.
  • Experience managing third‑party vendors and delivery partners.

Specific Knowledge & Experience Requirements (Programme-Aligned)

  • Proven experience delivering complex, multi-workstream migrations (ideally from legacy to global platforms) with interdependent journeys.
  • Strong understanding of phased migration approaches (e.g. transition states, coexistence, decommission planning).
  • Solid understanding of data migration frameworks including extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and validation.
  • Awareness of data lake / warehouse integration patterns (e.g. bringing global data back into a local data lake for continuity).
  • Experience working alongside Data Architects and engineering teams to translate business requirements into migration design.
  • Strong experience managing cross-workstream dependencies, ensuring clear ownership, tracking, and escalation via structured forums.
  • Proven ability to maintain and drive RAID logs with actionable mitigations, particularly where dependencies impact critical path.

Governance & SteerCo Reporting

  • Experience operating within strong governance frameworks, including:
  • Managing decision and action logs
  • Structuring reporting across multiple workstreams with clear ownership and status
  • Ability to translate technical/data risks into clear business impact statements.

Business & Partner Data Complexity

  • Experience handling historic data continuity requirements (e.g. servicing legacy transactions post-migration).
  • Transitional & Interim State Management
  • Knowledge of designing and managing interim operating states between legacy and target platforms.
  • Awareness of risks related to misalignment between localisation approaches and backend transition plans.

Stakeholder & Workshop Leadership

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional workshops to define scope, migration rules, and data requirements (including global and local stakeholders).
  • Ability to drive alignment across technical, data, and business teams with differing priorities.

Risk Awareness in Cloud/Data Platforms

  • Awareness of risks and considerations associated with cloud platforms (e.g. GCP), including data integrity, performance, and technical debt implications.
