Job Overview

The Room Leader provides professional leadership to the team during a busy day within the nursery, ensuring high-quality care, education, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Aims

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Deliver outstanding care and education.
  • Support, develop, and manage nursery staff under rota/your control.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • You are able to ensure the safety and welfare of children through a confident knowledge of safeguarding processes and procedures.
  • You are able to implement the EYFS with a good understanding of child development.
  • You will be able to support all nursery staff in their roles, leading them to deliver outstanding childcare.
  • You are a strong communicator with both adults and children.
  • You are able to work well within a team.
  • You recognise when to report issues of concern to a senior team member or relevant services.
  • You are able to work in partnership with parents and our partners to ensure our children thrive.
  • You always maintain a positive attitude with children, parents, colleagues and visitors.
  • You are creative and inspire learning as well as great at planning and organising.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (full and relevant).
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead qualification.
  • Safer Recruitment training.
  • Paediatric First Aid certification.
  • Food Hygiene Level 2.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and IT skills.
  • Ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and support staff.
  • Strong record-keeping, report writing, and observational skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively with parents and external agencies.
  • Confidence in supporting children with SEND.

Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of the EYFS and current inspection framework.
  • Excellent knowledge of safeguarding, child welfare, health and safety, and hygiene requirements.
