The Role
We are seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager to take ownership of daily transport activity within a busy, high-volume logistics environment. You will be responsible for ensuring efficient planning, strong compliance standards, and exceptional service delivery across all transport operations.
This is a key leadership role, overseeing operational teams, fleet performance, and customer service delivery while driving continuous improvement across the function.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day transport operations across multiple routes and customers
- Ensure all collections and deliveries are completed on time and in line with SLA requirements
- Lead, manage, and develop transport planners, supervisors, and drivers
- Optimise vehicle utilisation, route planning, and operational efficiency
- Ensure full compliance with UK transport regulations, driver hours, and tachograph rules
- Maintain high standards of health & safety across all transport activity
- Monitor fleet performance, maintenance schedules, and operational costs
- Act as key operational contact for major customers and resolve service issues
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
About You
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager or Operations Manager role within logistics or haulage
- Strong understanding of UK transport compliance and regulations
- Experience in time-critical, multi-drop, or JIT transport environments
- Confident leader with strong people management skills
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
- Commercially aware with a focus on efficiency and service delivery
- CPC qualification desirable (or willingness to hold, depending on structure)
- Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS)
