Role Overview
Arxada Wood Protection EMEA invites a Technical Services Scientist to join the Technical Services team in Manchester, UK. This role blends laboratory analysis with industrial application of preservative products, supporting internal and external customers to ensure treatment quality.
Essential Job Functions
- Routine sample preparation and analysis of timber and treatment solutions.
- Operate analytical equipment such as XRF, HPLC, GC, and MS.
- Conduct pilot‑scale timber treatments to support customers, product development, and external certifications.
- Use woodworking machinery, including mechanical saws, to prepare timber for treatment and analysis.
- Arrange servicing and training on timber treatment equipment and wood processing machinery.
- Serve as the primary contact for timber treatment requests.
- Ensure clear and accurate reporting of results and trends within agreed timelines or KPIs, and communicate any delays.
- Prepare technical protocols to define testing scope.
- Utilize Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint) for all documentation and reporting.
- Attend regular progress meetings and present findings and recommendations.
- Perform all work safely in accordance with internal EHS programs and legal requirements.
- Complete required EHS training and actively participate in site safety initiatives, including safety auditing and meetings.
- Prepare and review safety documentation such as COSHH assessments, risk assessments, and operating procedures; record and communicate any changes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Preferred: BSc in a science discipline or 3years’ experience in a similar role.
- Preferred area of study: Chemistry.
- Preferred previous industry experience: Laboratory‑based role in wood protection or a related field.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques (HPLC, XRF, MS, GC).
- Experience with laboratory safety practices.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- High‑quality report writing with keen attention to detail.
- Confidence and excellent communication skills at all organisational levels, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well within a team and under pressure, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Self‑motivated with a strong commitment to achieving results.
