Full‑time, hybrid working with onsite presence expected 3 days per week. Salary: £71,815 (inclusive of Specialist Allowance) plus benefits.

Role Overview
The Senior Regulatory Specialist will lead technical and regulatory activities related to fusion safety, security and environmental protection. This includes developing the future safety, security and environmental regulatory framework for fusion power plants, both domestically and internationally. The role requires eligibility for SC Clearance (residency in the UK for the last 5 years) and involves national and international travel to engage with government, regulatory bodies and international organisations such as the IAEA.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for fusion safety regulation programme activities and team management when required.
- Lead key domestic and international stakeholder relationships to harmonise fusion safety regulation.
- Provide expert technical input into strategic and technical documentation supporting the national and international regulatory framework for the future fusion industry.
- Elicit and provide input to IAEA documents on the Fusion Regulatory Framework and Safety Assessment and new standards.
- Present influential work at domestic and international conferences and seminars.
- Lead technical input to or review documentation to provide guidance and standards for safety, security and environment cases for the fusion industry.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Postgraduate qualification in engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
- Extensive experience in production of nuclear or high‑hazard safety cases and assessment of radiological safety, environmental and waste hazards, or COMAH safety reporting.
- Deep knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act, Environmental Permitting Regulations and other relevant regulations and guidance.
- Participation in regulatory interactions at a technical or strategic level.
- Experience leading or coordinating input to national and/or international industry workgroups on the development of safety, security and environment cases.
- Ability to communicate technical information to a non‑specialist audience.

- Experience modelling radionuclides to estimate dose to public and environment.
