Job Context

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Working towards a degree in a relevant subject (Software Engineering or equivalent)
  • Ability to analyse the scope of tasks
  • Interpret and contribute to requirements and specifications
  • Create concept designs
  • Work with other engineers to design and debug systems
  • Documentation skills to articulate and record design decisions and technical aspects of the work packages developed
  • Java or Python programming languages
  • Basic understanding of testing
  • Experience of communication protocols such as TCP/IP
  • Object‑oriented design
  • UML
  • Linux operating systems
  • Database principles (basic SQL and/or database terminology)
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • Capable of driving ideas/projects forward
  • Ability to work effectively to meet agreed timescales and plan project activities
  • Delivering work packages, not just researching ideas or theorising
  • Well organised and proactive
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good interpersonal skills with a pleasant and can‑do attitude

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of existing and new applications by analysing and identifying areas for modification and improvement
  • Contribute to development of new applications to meet customer requirements
  • Perform software tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues
  • Support in developing draft website maps, application models, and image or page templates for review by senior colleagues
  • Monitor and identify software defects and suggest corrections for approval by senior colleagues
  • Provide initial fault isolation and propose resolution for approval by senior colleagues
  • Produce accurate reports by collecting data from standard sources and inputting it into standard formats
  • Maintain assigned portals/websites using content creation and management tools and digital media to ensure technical continuity and development standards are met
  • Monitor and report on distribution of database resources and provide physical modeling and design services to tune database applications for optimum performance
  • Develop personal capabilities through training, coaching, and ongoing education

Additional Education & Experience Requirements

  • Post‑Secondary Non‑Tertiary Education
  • Sound experience and understanding of straightforward procedures or systems (7 to 12 months)
  • Very limited managerial experience (0 to 3 months)
