Job Summary
Helps provide care as a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist on the Acute Mental Health Ward for older people at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date for applications is 27 July 2026. The role is currently open only to staff already working for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.
Eligible applicants must work for one of the following organisations: • Cornwall Foundation Trust• Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust• Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver psychological assessment and treatment to older adults with newly presenting mental health needs, long‑term serious mental illness in an acute phase, or complex physical and cognitive challenges.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and support the planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions.
- Engage in professional development, including regular supervision, CPD, and training in Neuropsychology, with support for further qualifications such as Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology and Multi‑Professional Approved Clinician status.
- Supervise trainees from clinical psychology programmes at Plymouth University and host placements through the Undergraduate Psychology Intern programme.
Education, Qualifications & Experience
- Doctoral level training in Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychology, accredited by the British Psychological Society, or completion of such training in progress.
- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist, or expected to obtain registration before commencing.
- Experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment across outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
Skills and Aptitudes
- Proficiency in complex psychological assessment methods, formulation, intervention techniques, and case management.
- Ability to sustain intense concentration and adapt to rapidly changing patient needs.

The post requires a Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 disclosure and a Check of your criminal record with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Salary
£49,387 to £64,750 a year (Pro Rata).
