Diagnostic OPD Quality and Program Engineer
Department: FCSD – service engineering. Reporting to Quality Leader
Role Overview
Service Engineering is responsible for the workshop manual (electronic) which is used by the technicians at dealerships to help them understand, diagnose and resolve problems with Ford vehicles. The service team produces this information on every new program.
This role is part of the Quality team that are service engineering’s ‘eyes and ears’. The quality team understands the status of what has been published to the dealerships and is bringing the status of this back to the engineers who have produced this data so we can enhance its effectiveness. Similar roles at Ford would be such as a warranty analyst for example.
- Able to analyse and manipulate data from various sources including use of AI.
- Make recommendations following data analysis and recommendations.
- Collaborate with the diagnostic authors as to what’s been identified and needing resolution.
- Work with diagnostic authors to ensure errors/misses are highlighted to them and resolved.
- Obtain as requested high level information about upcoming programs to support the diagnostic authors in the understanding of changes on new programs.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Ability to work with a global team in various time zones
- Program management skills, including knowledge of GPDS
- Strong communication skill – both verbal and written
- Familiar with vehicle electronics architectures
- Familiar with vehicle mechanical architectures
- Hands on vehicle repairing preferred
- Strong problem solving skills
- Clear written/verbal communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Excel, Word)
- Ideally hands on experience servicing or repairing vehicles or similar products
- Ideally knowledge of how a dealership service department operates
- Good team player but also ability to focus and work alone to meet deadlines
Ford Diagnostics Engineer
Reports to Global Diagnostics Feature Team Leader – Ford Customer Service Division, team based out of Dunton (near Basildon, Essex) but office attendance requirement flexible and can be agreed.
Description of business: Delivery of dealer diagnostic content for Ford and joint ventures vehicle programs globally.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is one which has a vehicle repair background on both mechanical and electronic vehicle systems plus is proficient with using a computer and has experience with software basic languages. Candidate will create logical steps to lead technicians to identify reasons for failure.
- Work with Design engineers to understand vehicle electrical architecture, how it can fail and how it can be diagnosed
- Work with core team to determine if previously authored diagnostics can be leveraged or if new diagnostic pinpoint needs to be developed
- Utilises computer application software to design, develop, create and test the diagnostic routines for implementation.
- Validates and signs-off diagnostics routines using simulation, rigs and vehicles as necessary
- Work with Technical Assistance Center to help resolve diagnostic issues in the field, learn from this and update any diagnostic information where applicable
Skills
- Familiar with vehicle electronics architectures
- Familiar with vehicle mechanical architectures
- Familiar with software editors
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Excel, Word)
- Ideally hands on experience servicing or repairing vehicles or similar products
- Able to read, write and speak English as a minimum
- Good team player but also ability to focus and work alone to meet deadlines
We will consider both graduate engineers and experienced time-served engineers/technicians in the fields defined.
Experience in the automotive industry would be very welcomed, especially if current.
