Environment Protection Officer: Enforcement and Interventions
Based from Thurso (hybrid). The role is part of SEPA’s Enforcement Function within the Enforcement Support & Interventions team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver thematic interventions targeting environmental criminality to reduce harm and improve compliance.
- Support investigations and enforcement responses across regulated sectors, including evidence gathering, case management, taking witness and suspect statements, and preparing prosecution reports.
- Collaborate with the Enforcement Support team to provide specialist support to investigations and enforcement cases.
- Develop training and awareness materials and support the effective use of enforcement tools such as monetary penalties.
- Travel across Scotland, potentially being the sole Enforcement team member in some local offices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant experience or qualification equivalent to SCQF Level 8‑10 (minimum HND).
- Technical knowledge or experience of enforcement and/or environmental regulation and the provision of advice to internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake investigations, enforcement, and interventions work into unauthorised activities, including fieldwork, while adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Experience producing detailed written reports, documentation and providing recommendations and conclusions.
- Experience building relationships with partners and customers and dealing with challenging situations professionally.
- Ability to collaborate across the Enforcement Function and wider SEPA.
