Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and NEBOSH-qualified Health & Safety professional to provide ongoing Health & Safety support within a busy healthcare environment based at Medway Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessments

  • Review completed DSE assessments
  • Provide recommendations and corrective actions where required
  • Support compliance with Display Screen Equipment Regulations
  • Advise managers and employees on ergonomic best practice

RIDDOR Assessment Reviews

  • Review incidents reported through the internal incident reporting system
  • Assess whether incidents meet the reporting criteria under RIDDOR
  • Provide guidance on reporting obligations and compliance requirements
  • Support management teams with incident classification and reporting decisions

Health & Safety Risk Assessments

  • Review existing Health & Safety risk assessments across operational areas
  • Identify gaps, improvements, and additional control measures
  • Provide practical recommendations to reduce risk and improve compliance
  • Ensure assessments remain aligned with current legislation and best practice

Incident Investigation & Support

  • Provide Health & Safety advice following workplace incidents and near misses
  • Support investigations into Health & Safety and clinical incidents where required
  • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective action planning
  • Produce recommendations to prevent recurrence

Health & Safety Reporting

  • Prepare and contribute to Health & Safety reports for committee and management meetings
  • Analyse incident trends, emerging risks, and compliance performance
  • Present recommendations and improvement plans where required
  • Support the development of Health & Safety performance metrics and reporting

Requirements

Essential

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum)
  • Proven experience within a Health & Safety advisory or consultancy role
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience conducting and reviewing risk assessments
  • Experience supporting incident investigations and RIDDOR reporting
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and provide practical, solutions-focused advice

Desirable

  • Experience within healthcare, NHS, facilities management, or public sector environments
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH, GradIOSH, or Chartered IOSH)
  • Experience preparing reports for senior management or governance committees

Additional / Optional Services

Fire Risk Assessments

  • Undertake Fire Risk Assessments where these have not been completed within the current assessment cycle
  • Identify compliance issues and recommend remedial actions
  • Provide detailed reports and action plans
