Job Description:

Are you looking for a role where your technical input directly shapes water infrastructure? Do you have the communication skills to negotiate with Tier 1 contractors and the technical knowledge to challenge a design review? We are searching for an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to provide critical technical and operational support to the Project Manager throughout the full lifecycle of schemes with a focus on civil engineering — from Initial Concept and Feasibility through to Commissioning and Final Handover. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will ensure the seamless delivery of infrastructure projects, maintaining momentum from the pre‑construction phase to site completion.

Main responsibilities

  • Performing administrative tasks as required, including preparing estimates and invoices and keeping track of the project’s progress, usually with the help of specific software and technical experts.
  • Reporting to the project manager on the project’s progress through the project lifecycle.
  • Supporting team members by researching project information.
  • Updating and reporting on the project’s schedule progress, budget, and spending.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders about their needs and goals for the project.
  • Support the check and review of project scopes ensuring they achieve the required outputs and quality standards.
  • Providing input into the coordination of technical solutions and support on complex capital projects. This includes scope documents, works & site information, design drawings, programmes, CDM documents and compilation of job packs to required deadlines.
  • Liaison with internal stakeholders and external 3rd parties, to seek approvals to facilitate projects.
  • Undertaking site visits/audits and conducting project meetings.
  • Working closely with Project Managers regarding delivery dates, programme and cost analysis.
  • Liaising with third parties to ensure they have the correct information.
  • Maintaining thorough documentation of project activities.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating processes and procedures.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience

  • HNC, HND or degree in civil engineering.
  • Relevant Project Management Qualifications.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership.
  • Experience in a water distribution environment or similar industrial background.
  • Experience with project management software and common data environments.
  • Demonstrate and implement sound engineering judgement.
  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015 and how it is applied to projects.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Have a strong awareness and understanding of industry standards and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of the various NEC contracts and their application.

Compensation package

£42,000 – £48,000 p.a. dependant on experience
