We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join the team, working on a major infrastructure enabling works project in Saxmundham, Suffolk before progressing onto future projects across the UK.
Reporting to the Contracts Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the planning, coordination and delivery of enabling works packages, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, environmental compliance, programme performance and commercial control.

Responsibilities
- Project Delivery – Managing the safe and successful delivery of enabling works packages including site establishment, access infrastructure, utilities works, ground investigations, archaeological and ecological mitigation works, earthworks, piling, temporary works and construction stage drainage.
- Programme Management – Developing, maintaining and monitoring project programmes, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures to ensure key milestones and client requirements are achieved.
- Commercial Management – Working closely with commercial teams to manage budgets, forecasts, subcontract accounts, change management and project reporting.
- Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership – Ensuring compliance with company procedures, client requirements and legislative obligations whilst promoting a positive safety culture across all project activities
- Stakeholder Management – Liaising with clients, local authorities, statutory undertakers, landowners, environmental regulators, consultants and supply chain partners to facilitate successful project delivery.
- Resource Management – Managing project teams consisting of Works Managers, Site Agents, Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist consultants to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with programme requirements.
- Risk Management – Identifying project risks and opportunities and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Project Reporting – Preparing and presenting project progress reports, cost forecasts, programme updates and key performance indicators to senior management and clients.
- Quality Assurance – Managing quality processes and project assurance requirements, ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, company procedures and client requirements.
- Client Interface – Acting as the primary day-to-day interface with client representatives and attending progress, coordination and stakeholder meetings.
- Team Development – Leading, mentoring and developing engineers, supervisors and delivery teams to support personal and project performance.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications and Capabilities
To be successful in this role you must have the following qualifications and capabilities:
- Experience of managing people, clients and relationships
- Willingness to travel & work at various sites across the UK (including overnight stays)
- Full UK driving licence
- Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
- Demonstrable experience in a Project Manager or Site Agent role within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil engineering contractor
- Proven experience delivering major civil engineering, infrastructure, energy, utilities or enabling works projects valued between £5m and £50m+
- Experience of planning and coordinating multidisciplinary work fronts within live construction environments
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, forecasts, change control and project reporting
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project planning and delivery processes
- Good understanding and practical experience of NEC4 forms of contract
- Temporary Works awareness and experience managing temporary works requirements
- Highly developed professional communication skills, including writing and presenting reports, programmes, project updates and client presentations
- Ability to confidently and effectively communicate with all levels of the workforce, subcontractors, clients, consultants and regulatory bodies
- Be self-motivated, focused, reliable, well-organised and able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills within a live construction environment
- Enthusiastic about health, safety & environmental issues
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Possess strong computer literacy, including good working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite
- Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards professional membership with ICE.
- Experience delivering National Grid, DNO’s, renewable energy or major infrastructure projects
- Experience working on environmentally sensitive projects with ecological, archaeological and stakeholder constraints
- Temporary Works Coordinator qualification
- Experience managing enabling works packages including ground investigations, utilities diversions, site establishment, access roads and earthworks
