CAMHS Business Manager (N&S OPD)

The successful candidate must be a proactive and highly organised Business Manager to support the operational and strategic delivery of our National & Specialist CAMHS Outpatient Services. This requires strong problem‑solving, planning, and influencing skills within a complex, specialist outpatient department.
Main Duties of the Job
- Ensure effective operational systems are in place to meet Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and deliver high‑quality services.
- Oversee performance reporting, manage waiting times, monitor data quality, and support clinical activity reporting.
- Lead on risk management, health and safety compliance, incident reporting, and business continuity planning.
- Support clinical teams with performance insights and data analysis.
- Contribute to business planning, strategic proposals, and service improvement initiatives, including marketing and communication.
- Manage staffing processes, oversee expenses and invoicing, and ensure accurate financial and activity reporting.
- Line‑manage administrative and clerical teams, including recruitment, supervision, appraisals, and training compliance.
- Address performance issues within the team in accordance with Trust policies.
- Lead service‑wide projects, support ICT implementations, and resolve estates issues promptly.
About Us

In this role you will work Monday to Friday in the time frames from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., giving you an excellent work–life balance. On some occasions work may also be required outside of these core hours, including weekends and evenings.
The full‑time post is based at the Michael Rutter Centre, Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill, London SE5 8AZ, but travel between the out‑patient sites may be required. The post will move to the Pears Maudsley Children and Young People (PMCYP) site in May 2026.
Job Responsibilities
Operational & Performance Management
Ensure operational systems meet CQC standards and support high‑quality service delivery. Oversee performance reporting, waiting times, data quality (ePJS), and clinical activity monitoring. Lead on risk management, health and safety compliance, Datix reporting, and business continuity planning. Support clinical colleagues with performance data, insights and reporting.
Business & Service Development
Contribute to service business planning, strategic proposals, and service improvement initiatives. Support marketing and communication activities for the service.
Finance & Information Management
Manage staffing establishment processes (ECFs), expenses, invoicing and income monitoring. Coordinate monthly performance reports and contribute to commissioning returns. Work with teams to ensure accurate recording of clinical activity and achievement of waiting time targets.
Line‑manage administrative and clerical teams across CAMHS Outpatients. Oversee recruitment, supervision, appraisals, PDPs, and training compliance. Manage performance issues (sickness, conduct, capability, time‑keeping) in line with Trust policies.
Project & Operational Support
Lead service‑wide projects as delegated by the Service Manager. Act as E‑Rostering super user and support ICT implementation projects. Ensure estates issues are escalated and resolved promptly.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Relevant degree, professional qualification or equivalent operational experience (A)
- CMS/DMS in NHS Management or other management qualifications (A)
Experience
- Significant experience in operational and strategic development in a health or social care setting (A & I)
- Experience of performance management dashboards (e.g., quality, safety, governance and CQC compliance) (A & I)
- Financial management experience (A & I)
- Internal and external stakeholder engagement and communication
- Managing operational risk and Business Continuity plans
- Supporting business planning
- Staff management, staff performance and supervision experience (A & I)
- Experience of working in a changing environment (A & I)
Understanding and Knowledge
- Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint (A & T)
- Knowledge of the Care Quality Commission (A & I)
Skills and Abilities

£47,951 to £56,863 per annum inclusive of HCAS.
