Disability Case Manager (Urgent and Interim Support)
We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the delivery of support for disabled students with urgent, time‑critical and complex adjustment needs within our Disability Service. This role sits at the heart of the University’s approach to ensuring equitable access to learning and assessment, particularly where students require rapid, responsive support to avoid academic disadvantage.
About The Role
You will play a key role in shaping how urgent adjustments are assessed and implemented, taking lead responsibility for our new Interim Disability Access Plan (DAP) process and working closely with academic departments, professional services, and external partners.
Responsibilities
- lead and oversee the Interim Disability Access Plan (DAP) process, supporting students with urgent and time‑critical adjustment needs
- use your professional judgement to assess complex situations and determine appropriate, proportionate adjustments
- work collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues to agree and implement effective support
- provide specialist advice on complex and exceptional adjustments (Level 3), contributing to high‑level decision‑making processes
- contribute to the wider Disability Service by supporting students through standard (non‑urgent) advice and adjustment processes
Qualifications
- a degree (or equivalent experience) and experience of supporting disabled students in a higher education or similar setting, including managing a caseload of complex or sensitive student cases
- the ability to apply professional judgement in complex and time‑critical situations, balancing individual student need with academic requirements and institutional context
- a strong understanding of the student experience and the higher education environment, including the role and value of reasonable adjustments in enabling access to learning and assessment
- up‑to‑date knowledge of the legal, regulatory, and sector expectations relating to disabled student support, including equality legislation, anticipatory duties, and reasonable adjustment decision‑making

- build effective working relationships and work collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues, providing clear, credible and trusted advice
- communicate clearly and sensitively with a range of audiences, including students and colleagues, adapting your approach to different needs and situations
- identify and manage risk in complex cases, knowing when to escalation concerns and work in partnership with other services
- work flexibly and effectively within a busy service, organising and prioritising your workload to meet competing demands
