Main duties of the job
The post is for a full‑time (10 PA) Consultant Rheumatologist. It offers an opportunity to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding multidisciplinary team delivering rheumatology care across Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provision of ward consultations for inpatients as required.
- Participation in the management structure of the Medical Division.
- Managing the clinical programme: 5 clinic days (7.5 PA), clinical admin (1.75 PA), advice & guidance (0.25 PA), MDT meetings (0.25 PA) and ward referrals (0.5 PA).
- Completing revalidation activities (2.5 PA) and contributing to audit, research and supervision (up to 1 PA).
- Meeting on‑call commitment: There is no rheumatology on‑call commitment in this post.
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receiving Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.
- UK‑trained candidates: holder of a CCT or within six months of award of CCT by interview date.
- Non‑UK‑trained candidates must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification.
- MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification.
Knowledge and Experience
- Evidence of achievement of competencies by appointment date in line with DMC standards/Good Medical Practice: good clinical care, maintaining good medical practice, good relationships and communication with patients and colleagues, good teaching and training, professional behaviour and probity.
- Clinical training and experience to manage, supervise and offer expert clinical opinion on patients presenting to the Rheumatology Department.
Skills
- Experience supervising doctors and practitioners with the ability to teach clinical and practical skills.
- Evidence of appropriate teaching experience and formally supervising medical students, F1, F2, ACCS and specialist trainees.
- Robust audit undertakings within a team structure and evidence of feedback or peer review of these skills.
- Evidence of relevant research, e.g., presentations and publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
