Overview
This is an exciting time to join the team in Moray as we continue to expand the Geriatric services in line with the needs of an ageing population. The geriatric model of care in Moray aims to develop networks of expertise across secondary and primary care, providing inpatient care in Dr Gray’s Hospital and supporting other specialties within the hospital. Collaborative care with GPs in the three community hospitals across Moray and regular multidisciplinary meetings with GP practices help deliver proactive, accessible, and quickly reactive intervention to promote wellbeing and minimise unnecessary hospital admission.
Established pan‑Grampian linkages support service delivery in areas such as Movement Disorders and Stroke Medicine. Opportunities exist to further develop Grampian‑wide relationships and models of care with colleagues in Aberdeen.
This post will be based at Dr Gray’s Hospital and/or the community, with opportunities to develop established services in any area of subspecialist interest, including Frailty at the Front Door, Acute Inpatient Care, Orthogeriatrics and Surgical Liaison, Movement Disorders, Community Hospital Rehabilitation, alternatives to admission, Stroke Medicine and Community Care models.
The current Geriatric team are happy to adapt to accommodate the needs and interests of any applicant, aiming to provide a resilient service across Community, Front Door and In‑patient settings. Flexible and part‑time working is supported. As we develop our frailty pathways, the post holder is expected to contribute to the out‑of‑hours work of the Frailty team and may participate in the General Medicine on‑call rota if interested.
Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and community care for geriatric patients in Dr Gray’s Hospital and community settings.
- Deliver proactive, accessible and quickly reactive interventions to promote wellbeing and minimise unnecessary hospital admission.
- Collaborate with GPs in the community and participate in multidisciplinary meetings with GP practices.
- Support the frailty pathway, including out‑of‑hours work.
- Contribute to the General Medicine on‑call rota where appropriate.
- Maintain active participation in team development and network building with regional partners.
Qualifications
- Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC (licence must be in place prior to starting in post).
- Evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT, or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
- CESR or Portfolio Pathway route doctors eligible only once specialist registration is awarded.
- Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC must have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Applicants not listed on the GMC Specialist Register may be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.
Additional Information
From 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so pay will not be affected.
