An exciting new opportunity has arisen due to sabbatical leavefor a new or experienced health care support worker to join our friendly, wellestablished training practice in Swansea. We have a list size of approximately10,500 patients.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a health care support worker to work alongsideour associate practitioner and nursing team to deliver essential services toour local community. You will berequired to undertake basic observations (blood pressure, and weight), performECGs and conduct new patient health checks.Experience of taking blood samples is also desirable but we do provide agreat learning environment for staff and would provide training for this.

We are a 4 partner GP practice, with 5 salaried GPs and asupportive MDT healthcare team based in Brynhyfryd, Swansea. We have closelinks to the M4 motorway and will offer a competitive salary to the rightcandidate.

Our team includes GPs, pharmacists, physician associate,practice nurses, healthcare assistants and a highly experienced administrativeteam.

We are part of the Penderi Cluster and actively contributeand assist with delivery of the services and community work developed by thecluster.

We actively work to improve our systems and encourage newways of working to support our primary care team.

Job responsibilities

New patient health checks

Undertake health promotion to helpeducate patients and assess problems

Take ECGs

Suture removal/simple wounds

Able to perform cardio-pulmonaryresuscitation according to current UK guideline

Ensures awareness of statutory andlocal clinical protection procedures, including Safeguarding Children

Chaperoningduties

Processingand management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

Clearingand re-stocking consulting rooms

Assistingin the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Dressingof wounds that have been previously assessed by the nurse

Height& Weight – BMI

Responsiblefor the daily checking and recording of temperature for vaccine fridge

Routinechecking for infection control andsterilisation management of instruments used in thetreatment room

Has abasic understanding of emergency contraception & refers patients asappropriate. Advises on risk ofpregnancy and has basic knowledge of contraception options.

Influenza/Pneumococcal/B12/shinglesimmunisations, will undertake vaccinations as outlined subject tospecified PSDs.

Assistingclinical staff for minor procedures clinic

To maintain accurate patient recordsand document consultations according to practice guidelines

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • No formal qualifications as practice will provide training
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional development
  • Possess or working towards NVQ Level II Award.
  • Phlebotomy training

Experience

  • Experience of working with patients
  • Experience of working in the NHS/Pubic Sector.
  • Primary care experience
  • Experience of clinical systems
  • Up-to-date training in immunisations
  • Experience of consulting with patients
  • Health Promotion
