Facilities Domestic Assistant (Maglona House)

Position: Facilities Domestic Assistant (Maglona House – Carlisle)

Hours: 15 hours per week – Monday to Friday 6am-9am

Closing date: 21 July 2026

Join a dedicated, hard‑working team to undertake a range of cleaning duties within the premises and maintain cleaning to a very high standard.

Main duties of the job

  • Collect linen stores as required.
  • Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Adhere to responsibilities to safeguard children and vulnerable adults.
  • Carry out damp dusting of furniture and fittings at high and low levels.
  • Mop floor areas and maintain floors using electrical equipment when necessary.
  • Check electrical equipment is in good condition and PAT tested.
  • Clean toilets, baths and washbasins.
  • Empty all bins and dispose of waste appropriately, ensuring waste management regulations are followed.
  • Assist with ward or departmental duties as appropriate.
  • Undertake second cleaning of bodily fluids as required.
  • Guard against the potential risk associated with needle stick injuries, especially in toilet areas.
  • Wear uniform and protective clothing provided, as instructed.
  • Make beds as requested.
  • Ensure attendance at appropriate training.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 1 Cleaning & Support Services or equivalent.
  • BICSc certification or equivalent.
  • NVQ 2 in Cleaning and Support Services.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge of cleaning, food handling/hygiene, COSHH procedures.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience working in a hospital environment.
  • Experience in a domestic role.

Skills

  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work alone and in a team.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Ability to follow health & safety and hand hygiene procedures.
  • Knowledge of equality issues.
  • Ability to communicate with patients with behavioural issues or severe communication difficulties.
  • Flexible approach to work.
