Job Description:

The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the Operational Training and Exercising Strategy through the provision of operational assurance, exercising and specialist training activities. The role is responsible for conducting on-station Maintenance of Competence (MoC) assurance visits, providing objective feedback and support to ensure operational personnel maintain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to perform safely and effectively at operational incidents.

The postholder will support the delivery of Service exercises that test operational preparedness, validate policies and procedures, and contribute to organisational learning and continuous improvement across all fire and rescue core themes. The role will also deliver Marauding Terrorist Attack (MTA) training, supporting the development and maintenance of multi‑agency operational response capability and preparedness.

The postholder will contribute to the quality assurance, evaluation and continuous improvement of training, assurance and exercising activities, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities, operational risk and national guidance.

Experience

  • You will have competent Watch Manager or above experience
  • Experience of providing guidance and support to learners in the development of skills, confidence and knowledge
  • Experience of integrating high quality assessment practices in different environments to inform decisions
  • Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding policy and procedures
  • Experience of developing inclusive and challenging support strategies
  • Experience of engaging and supporting learners to apply skills in the workplace
  • Experience of supporting individuals to meet agreed objectives and milestones
  • Experience of functional roles such as Hazardous Materials Officers, NILO, Command Support Officer etc.
  • Experience in exercise design and delivery

Salary: £30,024 – £33,699 per annum (full‑time equivalent). Salary will be adjusted pro rata to reflect the part‑time hours of 21 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent – (desirable)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or Competence in the Work Environment, or equivalent – (essential)
  • ILM Level 3 Award in Coaching and mentoring or equivalent – (desirable)
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification – (desirable)
  • ICL level 1 or 2 – (essential)
  • RTCI – (desirable)
  • HMEPO/HAZMAT – (desirable)
  • Rope Instructor – (desirable)
  • BAI – (desirable)
  • Trauma Qual – (desirable)
