About this job

We are looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with autism and associated needs. We are a specialist school for children and young people with autism aged 4‑19.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with general support throughout the school day in class, small groups and 1:1 sessions.
  • Supporting pupils through academic, social and emotional elements of school life.
  • Supporting communication, emotional regulation and social development.
  • Promoting positive behaviour through relational approaches.
  • Providing personal and intimate care such as nappy changing, toileting support and assistance with daily routines.
  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists and other professionals to identify and meet student needs.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, life skills and preparing pupils for life beyond the school.
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, routines, enrichment activities and creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications) across a range of subjects.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism and associated needs.
  • Experience working within an EYFS environment or an EYFS approach to learning.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Effective behaviour management skills using relational approaches.
  • Good organisation and time‑management skills.
  • Patient, nurturing and passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND.

Desirable:

  • A Level 3 or SEND‑related qualification.
  • Experience supporting intuitive care.
  • Experience developing links within the wider community.
  • Knowledge of partnership working.
  • A commitment to continued professional development.

Working patterns

Purely term‑time, 37 hours per week. Regular hours Monday‑Friday: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (Monday), 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (Thursday & Friday).

Location

Hempton Lane, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, BS32 4AJ.

Contract

Permanent, part of an inclusive environment.

Salary

£22,201 – £23,651 per annum (pay award pending).
