Valero’s Pembrokeshire Oil Storage Terminal (VPOT) is one of the largest petroleum products storage facilities in the United Kingdom. Located near Valero’s Pembroke Refinery in West Wales, VPOT can store 8.5 million barrels of products and feedstocks in 53 storage tanks. It also has two deep‑water jetties that facilitate access for supply ships serving UK coastal terminals and provide a freight advantage to customers in Ireland and North America.
The role requires a minimum of 10 years of operational experience and involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the terminal. As part of the Operations team, the terminal operator will oversee the safe discharge and export of petroleum products via both jetties, movement of product from the terminal to the main line pipeline, permitting and supervising maintenance activities, and accounting for such movements using SCADA and tank operating systems. The successful candidate must also be computer‑literate and possess relevant IT experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing and monitoring all product movements.
- Reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
- Developing and issuing electronic work permits to staff, maintenance teams, and external contractors.
- Managing inventory.
- Carrying out routine maintenance tasks.
- Alarm management and response.
The terminal operator will also conduct regular site inspections, process monitoring, and performance observations to maintain a safe environment for employees and contractors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Health and safety qualifications.
- Experience in bulk petroleum storage.
- Strong computer literacy and relevant IT experience.
