PLANT OPERATIVE – WASTE MANAGEMENT (TIL/MI/)

Location: Tilbury, England

Salary: £13.30 per hour (temporary role)

Shifts: Days & nights – 12‑hour shifts (6 am–6 pm and 6 pm–6 am), weekly rota.

Overview

This role involves monitoring plant processing, sorting machines and screens to ensure efficient operation and maintaining cleanliness and safety. The operative supports senior plant operators, manages paperwork, responds to alarms and assists maintenance during downtime.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant processing, sorting machines and screens continuously for efficient performance.
• Respond to machine issues, bottlenecks, blockages and alarms, rectifying or reporting as needed.
• Maintain clean and safe walkways, landings, stairs and work areas; report or rectify any spills immediately.
• Complete shift hand‑over paperwork accurately and ensure safe hand‑over of operations.
• Operate company FLT (if trained).
• Keep all machines free of dust build‑up.
• Cover break times and holiday periods for other plant operative roles.
• Monitor waste streams and address adverse variations promptly.
• Assist maintenance during plant downtime, ensuring safety requirements are met.
• Work well under pressure and manage multiple workloads.

Qualifications & Skills

• Good knowledge of health and safety practices.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Current FLT licence.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Basic IT skills.
• Logical fault‑finding skills.
• Good understanding of 5S culture.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
