About the role
justteachers is working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive primary school to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within the school’s Specialist Resource Base (SRB). This is a full-time, long-term position with a September start, providing 1:1 support for a pupil with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping the pupil to access learning, regulate emotions, and build positive relationships within the school environment. The school is committed to providing a nurturing and structured setting where every child is supported to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs within the SRB and classroom environment
- Support the pupil’s emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement with learning
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff to implement support strategies
- Adapt activities and approaches to meet the individual needs of the pupil
- Promote a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
- Encourage the development of social skills, confidence, and independence
Pre-requisites
- Experience working with children, ideally within a school or SEN setting
- Previous SEMH, SEN, or behaviour support experience is desirable
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships and respond proactively to challenging situations
- Two recent, relevant references
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) are desirable
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
