Overview

Waltham Gateway Academy — RSP Teaching Assistant (Permanent, 32.5 hours per week, term time only (195 days)). Salary LGAT 7 – £26,948 FTE; Actual Salary – £20,237.95.

The academy opened in September 2025 and plans to grow from about 40 pupils to around 65 in September 2026, with eventual capacity up to 210 pupils from Reception to Year 6. The academy includes a Resource Specialist Provision (RSP) for up to 12 children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The RSP Teaching Assistant will work with the RSP team to deliver a broad, balanced, specialist curriculum and to support pupils accessing the RSP.

Responsibilities

The RSP Teaching Assistants will:

  • Work closely with the RSP Teacher, SENDCO and staff across the Academy to provide a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support the teacher in delivering adaptive, personalised teaching strategies to develop pupils’ skills and confidence.
  • Contribute to a trauma-informed, relational approach and child-centred practice to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement a safe and supportive learning environment aligned with the academy’s vision and values.

Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking experienced teaching assistants who are committed to helping children who have often had negative experiences of education. The role requires:

  • Experience with children across key stages (desirable).
  • Experience with children with additional needs, including SEMH (vital).
  • Good knowledge and practical understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate specialist knowledge or training relevant to this position in the application.

The successful candidates will champion trauma awareness and relational learning, building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to create a safe learning environment.

Contract and Professional Development

A full package of ongoing CPD is provided as part of the whole-school relational approach, including regular supervision. The role starts in September 2026.
