An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Multidisciplinary Technician to join our Therapy Team in the School. This role will require the successful candidate to provide high quality evidence-based, MDT technician support, in order to promote the participation and functional activity of children and young people.

You will provide support to the therapy teams providing services to children, young people and their families accessing The Childrens Trust School and residential services. This will include the delivery of child and family focused, goal-led assessments and interventions, in collaboration with multidisciplinary health, therapy and education teams.

Our service delivery aims to promote outcome focussed interventions, safe care, function and participation of children and young people accessing home, school, and community life. As such, you will also support the provision of specialist equipment, hydrotherapy and leisure swims, therapy resources, assistive technology for the classroom and House, and provide integrated in class working.

Main duties of the job

Role Requirements

• Provide high quality, evidence-based interventions for children and young people attending The Childrens Trust School in partnership with other members of the multidisciplinary team and education services, under the guidance of qualified therapists.
• Deliver suitable, individualised, 24hr therapy programmes/strategies, which fit within the child’s daily routine, whether to be carried out by parents or members of the multidisciplinary team; work in collaboration with parents, carers, and therapists to support therapy goal setting, which will facilitate participation of the child in their life skills.
• Support the therapists, multidisciplinary and education teams with measuring short term targets, through using the IMpacts curriculum and therapy outcome measurement tools e.g., Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS).
• Keep appropriate and accurate intervention records, fulfilling legal, professional and all other requirements of The Childrens Trust.
• Support the delivery of a tiered model approach to therapy at The Childrens Trust School, providing regular integrated time to classes and Houses.
• Work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team, the child, and their family, to provide a fully integrated approach to the overall management of the child. This will include any home/ school visits, professional child related meetings and appointments, as required.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Skills and Responsibilities

• Provide high quality, evidence-based interventions for children andyoung people attending The Childrens Trust School in partnership with other members of the multidisciplinary team and educationservices, under the guidance of qualified therapists.

• Support the child throughout their daily routines to maximiseindependence and participation including afterschool clubs and trips.
• Provide clinical cover across the service during episodes of staffshortage/ heavy workload, to ensure effective service delivery.
• Be an autonomous technician, with responsibility for assisting withassessment, treatment, and planning, for an allocated case load ofchildren/young people, as directed through supervision.
• Manage a small case load of children and young people, under the guidanceof a qualified therapist.
• Support the collation of childrens reports/ plans for children/ youngpeople, within the multidisciplinary team framework.
• Monitor equipment and stock for therapy departments and identify resourcesfor order.
• Complete equipment orders for therapy teams and contribute to futureequipment needs for service budgets.
• Complete LOLER inspections for slings, as and when required.
• Support children/ young people with leisure swims and therapistsdelivering aquatic therapy in the therapy pool.
• Support the oversight of specialist equipment for the department.
• Work with the class team and provide integrated time within theclassroom as required.
• Demonstrate and model safe moving and handling practice in class and House.
• Support the delivery of assistive technology interventions.
• Work flexibly across the site, as needed e.g., with the team in the NewCheyne Centre and Children & Family Services.
• Actively participate in meetings.
• Take minutes of meetings, if and when required.
• Support and assist in the planning and delivery of training at a universallevel of service delivery.
• Support with information collection for audits.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• GCSE or equivalent in Numeracy and Literacy.
• Post graduate course e.g., PMLD, Makaton, intensive interaction.
• IT Qualification.
• Aquatic Therapy training.
• Lifeguard.

Experience

• Experience of working with children or adults with acquired brain injuries or complex needs or neurodisability.
• Experience of working with children, young people, and their families.
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Previous experience of working as a Therapy Technician.
• Experience of working with specialist therapy equipment e.g., specialist seating, slings, personal care.
• Experience of delivering leisure swims or aquatic therapy for children with complex needs.
• Knowledge of creating and using a range of paper based and powered AAC systems e.g., symbols, PODD books, e-tran frame.

Skills & Abilities

• Competent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge

• Typical child development.
